As one of my internship projects, I was the casting assistant for Avatar 2 The Experience at Gardens By The Bay. Overall, we had cast over 120 people for 3 categories and had a total of 14 talents on set with us. Our client was Disney (LA) and Cityneon.
OVERVIEW
As a Casting Assistant, I am to search for the required talents needed for the project.
I was in charge of one of the categories (A group of friends), which specifically looked for teenagers aged 18-25 (pan-Asians, Asians, Caucasians and African-Americans).
You'd want to have as many options as you can, as you would be sending them in batches and never would want one batch to look empty.
Firstly, We had a meeting to get all the details for a crafted message which we would then send out to people in our talent base to see whether they'd want to do the project. Luckily for this one, we could say the project name which was avatar 2 and that really helped the process.
Secondly, we made a self-cast brief which I used as an example for those who have to self-tape themselves at home.
We then did our normal routine which was creating a talent list and getting all their pictures and videos and particulars down. I also helped to edit both photo decks and auditions videos to send into batches.
Over the few weeks, we got confirmation of those who were shortlisted and then confirmed for the shoot.
Challenge: During the shoot, there was a miscommunication between the production and ourselves when they had taken back their decision of asking all talents to bring back their coloured outfits and leave their white ones for the next day. So when they asked them to wear them again, they did not have their clothes. So I decided that We had to become the 'stylists' and mix and match whatever clothes they wore to the set, they had on and the white outfits. In the end, we made it work and everyone was okay.
Overall, my experience was really amazing as I not only had to multi-task in taking care of the talents but also getting them in their outfits and to their location on time. I felt that communications were really good between myself and everyone. I had such an amazing time also meeting the clients and my talents from all ages (ranging from 8-50) and learning more about their experience in the industry.
